I’ve become a huge fan of Dr. Marcus Bunyan’s art blog Art Blart. He has a brilliant review of the Lost & Found Project: Family Photos Swept by 3.11 East Japan Tsunami. This project is now showing at the Centre for Contemporary Photography in Melbourne, Australia. Bunyan has gotten permission to post images from the show, so please take a look. More after the jump.
These are family photographs that were swept out to sea and then collected, and then through massive volunteer help (see this amazing work here), were cleaned, numbered, scanned into a digital format, and indexed to help find the photograph’s owners.
You can also purchase posters of the images, with 70% of the monies to be donated, and 30% to keep the project running.
A great project in response to a horrific event.
